Our history

Netwealth Investments Limited was founded in London in 2015 by Charlotte Ransom and Thomas Salter. Their aim was to give UK investors a genuinely transparent, lower-cost alternative to an industry that had, for too long, made it difficult for clients to see what they were paying, how their money was performing, or who was making decisions on their behalf. Charlotte Ransom, a Goldman Sachs Partner for a decade with over two decades in investment banking, had looked for a wealth manager herself and was not convinced by the services offered by traditional providers.

The costs were opaque, the performance hard to verify, and there was no use of technology to improve the client experience and overall efficiency. Salter, a Managing Director at JP Morgan, shared the same diagnosis. Together they set out to build the UK-based investment management and financial planning firm they would want to be clients of themselves: one where fees were low and visible, portfolios incorporated active management with passive implementation, and clients had access to regulated financial planning advice, as and when needed. The service launched in May 2016.

Netwealth Investments Limited is a hybrid wealth manager authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 706988). It combines a proprietary online platform with qualified financial planning advisers and a specialist investment team, giving clients professional oversight and direct visibility over their money, with the ability to dial advice up or down as their needs change.

The firm manages ISAs, pensions, and general investment accounts for UK private clients with a minimum investment of £50,000. Fees are charged as a single percentage, covering management, trading, custody and administration and are typically 0.50% - 1% lower per annum than those charged by traditional wealth managers.

Edward Bonham Carter, former Group Chief Executive and Vice Chairman of Jupiter Fund Management, chairs the board. Chief Economic Strategist Gerard Lyons, formerly Chief Economic Adviser to the Mayor of London and Chief Economist and Group Head of Global Research at Standard Chartered, joined at launch.

Where we are today

A decade on from its founding, Netwealth manages over £1.5 billion in assets for UK private clients, with an average portfolio of circa £500,000, entirely through organic growth. The firm serves individuals, families and charities with investible assets typically between £50,000 and £5 million, providing access to professional investment management and financial planning for a far wider range of investors than was previously possible.

The problem that led Charlotte Ransom and Thomas Salter to build Netwealth in 2015 has not gone away. The difference is that now there is an answer to it.

Charlotte Ransom has been featured in Spear's, the magazine and research platform covering the UK's private client advisory market, both regularly listed among their top wealth advisers and discussing Netwealth's approach to combining human-led financial planning with modern technology.
